Destinations 

Our campground is the perfect base for exploring the whole east coast of Tasmania. Whether you are heading into the national park or further north or south along the great eastern drive, set up camp and off you go!

 

Here are some of our favourite places to visit on the east coast within easy reach of Freycinet Campground (driving times are approximate):

LOCAL


FRIENDLY BEACHES (3 minutes)
A stunning expanse of pure, white sand and great surf breaks.


COLES BAY (14 minutes)
This is our nearest small town and where you will find the nearest grocery shop. Also in Coles Bay:
Services: Petrol, groceries, general store and post office, bottle shop, ATM
Something to eat: cafes, bakery, pub, ice cream, woodfired pizza, fish and chips. Check out Geographe or Granite.
Things to do:

FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK (16 minutes to visitor info centre)
Home of the iconic Wineglass Bay and many other stunning walks. Head to the Visitor Information
Centre for maps and advice and to purchase your National Parks Pass.

Something to eat: Pack a picnic or fine dining at Freycinet Lodge
Things to do:

TO THE NORTH

 

BICHENO (17 minutes)
Bicheno is a larger town than Coles Bay but still a small seaside village. Similar in size to Swansea (to
the South), Bicheno is home of iconic Redbill Beach and the Bicheno Blowhole.
Services: Petrol, ATM, pharmacy, GP, IGA, post office, bottle shop, newsagent, library, surf
shops
 and retail
 (Islander Fashion). 
Something to eat: bakery, patisserie, cafes, woodfired pizza, fish and chips, seafood
restaurants, Sealife Restaurant Bicheno, pub and RSL
Things to do:

ST HELENS (1 hr 15 minutes)
The largest town on the east coast, you will find most major services here.
Services: All the usual services you would expect in a big, regional town including
 a hospital
Something to eat: Full range of cafes, restaurants, bakeries, pubs, take aways and more.
Things to do:

BAY OF FIRES (1 hr 24 minutes to Binalong Bay)
Binalong Bay is the gateway to Bay of Fires.

TO THE SOUTH

SWANSEA (34 minutes)

Another small seaside town, Swansea has breathtaking views over Great Oyster Bay and across the
Hazards. Similar in size to Bicheno (to the North), Swansea is a larger town than Coles Bay.
Services: Petrol, ATM, pharmacy, GP, supermarket, general store, hardware, bottle shop,
retail

Something to eat: bakery, cafes, woodfired pizza, fish and chips, pubs
Things to do:

TRIABUNNA AND ORFORD / MARIA ISLAND FERRY (1 hr 15 minutes)
Head south to the small town of Triabunna and a few minutes further to the neighbouring town of Orford.

WINERIES (CRANBROOK AND SURROUNDS)
We are surrounded by world class wineries, most with cellar door tastings and some with
